In “Mortal Kombat,” MMA warrior Cole Young, accustomed to receiving blows for money, is unaware of his legacy — or why Outer World Emperor Shang Tsung has sent his best warrior, Sub-Zero, an otherworldly Cryomancer, to hunt Cole down. Worried for his family’s safety, Cole goes in search of Sonya Blade towards Jax, a Special Forces Major who has the same strange dragon mark as Cole at birth. Soon, he found himself in the shrine of Lord Raiden, God Elder and protector of Earthrealm, who provided protection to those with the mark. Here, Cole trains with experienced warrior Liu Kang, Kung Lao, and rogue mercenary Kano, as he prepares to stand alongside the greatest champion on Earth against the enemies of the Outer World in a high-stakes battle for the universe.

Une nouvelle variation de l’univers de la saga vidéoludique “Mortal Kombat”.

The Mortal Kombat film focuses on the rivalry between Sub Zero aka Bi-Han and Scorpion also known as Hanzo Hasashi. It started in 17th century Japan with the assassination of the Hasashi family by Bi-Han and soon, fast forward to the present day with the likes of Raiden, Shang Tsung, Goro, Kabal, Mileena, Kano, Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Raiden, Jax Briggs, Nitara, and Sonya Blade will also appear.

As most Mortal Kombat fans will know, this film also has multiple domains. The three mentioned in the film are Netherrealm (coincidentally the name of the studio that made the game) also known as Hell, Earthrealm (where the good people are), and Outworld (where the criminals reside). One world can conquer another after defeating its greatest warrior in 10 consecutive tournaments known as Mortal Kombat. It turned out that Earthrealm was only one defeat away from the invasion.

There’s a new addition to the list with Cole Young (Lewis Tan), a former MMA champion who’s now a warrior hired with a mysterious dragon tattoo he was born with. Raiden tells him that he is a descendant of the Hasashi lineage that was prophesied to prevent Earthrealm’s defeat.

The plot itself is fairly straightforward. As soon as Shang Tsung realizes the ancient prophecy predicting Cole Young’s role, he unleashes his warriors to kill all the Earthrealm champions with a dragon tattoo. Young and his family are attacked by Sub-Zero only to be saved by Jax whose arm was torn off by Sub-Zero.

Young tracks Sonya on Jax’s orders and is informed of the Mortal Kombat and the dragon tattoo. They are attacked by the Reptiles who were killed by Kano who was imprisoned in Sonya’s hideout. They travel to Raiden temple to meet the God of Lightning himself as well as Liu Kang, Kung Lao, and Jax who now have mechanical weapons.

Shang Tsung attacks the temple with Sub-Zero and Mileena but is detained thanks to Raiden’s shield. But the Outside World convinces Kano to defect, allowing an all-out attack on the Raiden shrine. This resulted in the deaths of Nitara and Kung Lao.

After escaping and regrouping, the Earthrealm warriors forced the Outer World champions into one-on-one combat. Liu Kang and Jax kill Kabal and Reiko while Young kills Mileena and Sonya kills Kano. Sub-Zero appears and lures Young into battle by taking his family hostage. Raiden gives Young a bloodied kunai that once belonged to Hasashi which he used in his battle with Sub-Zero to summon Scorpion and defeat Sub-Zero. The film ends with a classic sequel feed.
